Auction Tips

BEFORE THE AUCTION

  1. Inspect the property on auction in good time and decide beforehand if you are interested in the property, as all property is sold “voetstoots”(as is).
  2. Make sure that you receive a folder on arrival that contains the terms and conditions of sale. Read this document and familiarise yourself with the contents.
  3. Should you be interested in participating in the auction, register as a bidder and pay your registration fee at the appointed place and to the appointed person beforehand. If you do not bid on any goods at the auction, your registration fee will be refunded. You will receive a buyer’s card with a unique number printed on it.
  4. Calculate how much money will be payable upon conclusion of your transaction. It is not advisable to bid if you do not have the funds available to conclude the sale, or if you have not made proper financial arrangements, as a bidder is legally bound by his/her bid.
  5. No cash is accepted, fully or in part, at any auctions. Therefore you need to make sure that your financial arrangements are in place prior to the auction or as arranged with the auctioneer.
  6. Please ask all relevant questions before the auction commences and make sure you know which property you are bidding on.
  7. Remember that commission and taxes may be payable over and above the bid price.

DURING THE AUCTION

  1. To bid, raise your buyer’s card with your unique bidder’s number and make eye contact with the auctioneer.
  2. Once you have decided to stop bidding, keep your hands and body still. Shake your head to indicate “no” should the auctioneer look at you.
  3. Keep your bidder’s card safe. If you lose your card, report it to the auctioneer immediately.

AFTERWARDS

  1. If you bought anything at the drop of the hammer, go to the auctioneer or appointed person immediately.
  2. Make sure that all the details provided to the auctioneer are correct.
  3. Once the contract has been signed and your payment is made, you are free to leave. You will be contacted by the seller’s attorney with regard to the transfer procedure.
